SHAME TEA

A participatory ritual performance for honoring and closure of shame. An unburdening process. Participants were invited to sit down for tea at an installation comprised of the following: Tea pot filled with hot water, tea cups, tea bags, lace runner and a variety of tea bags. Participants were instructed to write something they feel shame about on the tea tag of their chosen tea bag. Once they did this they were instructed to let it steep in their chosen cup. They were then asked to drink it, essentially drinking their shame. Once finished, they were asked to detach the tea tag and leave it behind in a sacred vessel, releasing it.
